The StoryCorps oral histories project began in 2003 as an effort to “provide people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of our lives.” As of 2015, the project has recorded more than 50,000 interviews with more than 90,000 participants. The entire body of StoryCorps’ work is housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

In 2009, the Cuban Heritage Collection became a community partner of the StoryCorp Historias project, “an initiative to record the diverse stories and life experiences of Latinos in the United States.” As part of this partnership, the Cuban Heritage Collection received all oral histories recorded in Miami and all interviews in which participants self-identified as Cuban or of Cuban descent, regardless of interview location.

The 152 StoryCorps Historias interviews held at the Cuban Heritage Collection are available for online access at the Cuban Heritage Collection’s reading room or at computers in the Richter Library on the University of Miami campus.
